School General Policies

De-World International Secondary School has a number of policies that span various areas of campus life. Some of them are presented here. Kindly contact us if you need to know more.

The school takes its responsibility to adequately guide and mentor the children under its care seriously. To effectively carry out this responsibility, the school develops and implements policies concerning:

  • Child care
  • Student-student relationship
  • Student-staff relationship
  • Staff-parent relationship
  • Discipline and Sanctions
  • Complaints, and so on

1. Child Care

i. The school takes a learner-centered approach to teaching and learning. It sees each learner as unique and believes each learner can learn, though at a different pace or rate. It therefore discourages insensitive comparisons and criticisms. It equally frowns upon other actions that can negatively affect a child’s morale, confidence, or self-esteem. Rather, it motivates and stimulates each learner to surpass his or her previous performance; therefore, gradually guiding each learner to attain his or her full potential.

ii. The school considers the well-being and safety of children under its care paramount. Therefore, the school provides rich and adequate meals to its students and prohibits ordering food from outside the school.

iii. The school provides an adequately furnished sickbay with well-trained, qualified, and certified healthcare providers. Only these healthcare providers are permitted to attend to learners with health-related complaints. Moreover, only over-the-counter drugs provided by the school or drugs prescribed by the learners’ family doctors can be administered in the school.

2. Student-Student Relationship

i. Bullying: De-World International Secondary School does not treat issues of bullying lightly. The school is meant to be a home away from home for every learner. Therefore, any learner who tries to create an atmosphere of fear or terror in the school will be strictly dealt with.

ii. Courtesy: While junior students are expected to respect their seniors, students generally are expected to be courteous towards one another. Any act of impoliteness is expected to be reported to the school’s authority. No student is allowed to take the law into their own hands.

3. Student-Staff Relationship

i. No student is allowed in the staff quarters.

ii. Teaching and non-teaching staff of the school are seen as surrogate parents to the students. Therefore, no act of disrespect from any student to a staff member is tolerated. Any student who engages in such an act shall face a disciplinary committee and serve punishment as the committee deems fit.

iii. The use of insulting or abusive words, or any form of humiliation to discipline students, is strictly prohibited. Students shall be corrected with love and care.

4. Parent-Staff Relationship

i. We encourage mutual respect between staff and parents.

5. Discipline

i. Sanctions: Students who break the rules will be punished according to the seriousness of the offense.

ii. Rewards: Students who behave well will be rewarded. Certificates are also awarded each term to students who display exemplary behavior within the term.
